Mac Computers come with good set of tools for music composition. One is Ardour, an open source application for editing digital sound that is on par with the great commercial and professional programs. Multichannel recording, non-destructive editing, Undo / Redo unlimited, task automation. Ardour does not come with any built-in signal processors of its own. However, there are hundreds of plugins (effects and instruments) that you can use with Ardour, many of which are available at no charge. Ardour is a cross-platform Digital Audio Workstation for recording, editing, and mixing sounds and beats. It is so professionally made it can be a contender of the famous Adobe Audition DAW quality-wise.
It is professionally used by audio engineers, musicians, soundtrack editors, and composers.
I wouldn’t say Ardour features an intuitive-enough User Interface for beginners but those who are familiar with the workings of DAWs will see that its UI workflow isn’t difficult to get up and running with when it’s opened for the first time.
Plus, the development team has done their best to keep the User Experience uniform across platforms.
